Dundee United goal hero William Edjenguele has wished teammate Lewis Toshney a rapid recovery from his latest injury blow.
Toshney had to leave the field in agony during during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Hibs at Easter Road.
The initial fear for manager Ray McKinnon was that his player had broken his ankle.
A X-ray has since shown that there is no break but Toshney has instead damaged the ligaments on both sides of the joint.
That will put him out of action for several weeks and it is just the latest injury setback for the former Raith Rovers man, who has also broken his nose and hurt his knee since joining United in the summer.
Central defender Edjenguele, who equalised for the Tangerines against the Hibees to earn a precious point, is hoping his colleague can make a quick recovery.
The big Frenchman said: “We have been unlucky with injuries this season and it’s not good for Lewis.
“There is always someone who can come in and do a job in his place but I hope it’s not too bad for him.
“I hope he will be back with us as quickly as possible.”
United are also losing the services of goalkeeper Cammy Bell as he is having an operation on his groin today.
A timescale has not been placed on his absence but, realistically, he could be sidelined for the rest of this month.
That is a busy period which sees United face Stranraer away in the Irn Bru Cup this Saturday, followed by league games against St Mirren (away), Dumbarton (home) and Falkirk (home).
Arguably the club’s star of the season so far because of his penalty save hat-trick heroics against Dunfermline, Bell has been playing through the pain barrier and will be replaced between the posts by Luis Zwick.
On a happier note, Edjenguele was delighted to grab his first goal for United.
The powerful header off a Scott Fraser corner on 68 minutes capped a much-improved second-half display against the Hibees.
Asked about his equaliser, Edjenguele said: “It was not bad, was it?
“It’s my first goal for the club so I’m delighted.
“We didn’t win the game but I think in the end it was a fair result.
“In the first half we weren’t really at it.
“The second half was much better and I was lucky enough to score.
“It wasn’t a bad day for me but also a good one for the team.
“It’s too early to talk about challenging at the top of the league.
“For me, it’s about Christmas and then, after that, February and March.
“I hope we are going to be up there then.”
