Dundee United have been dealt a big blow with the news that Stewart Murdoch is set to miss the next three months because of injury.
A scan has confirmed that the 26-year-old midfielder has suffered knee ligament damage with Tangerines boss Ray McKinnon admitting it is a “nightmare” for the player.
He said: “Stewart Murdoch has damaged his cruciate ligament.
“We have had the scan results back so he’s looking at around three months out.
“It’s terrible news but he’s got a little tear there so it will need time to heal.
“We have just got to hope he’ll heal quickly because it’s a nightmare for him.”
Meanwhile, there was better news on keeper Cammy Bell who returned to light training yesterday after undergoing a groin op just last week.
And McKinnon revealed there is an outside chance the stopper could play his part against St Mirren on Saturday.
He added: “It’s incredible that Cammy is back doing handling already.
“Whether he’s ready for the weekend or not we will just have to see as the week goes on but he’s definitely got a chance.”
