Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon admits a fraught fortnight of sleepless nights was well worth it to land goalie Cammy Bell.
The manager pulled off one of the signing coups of the summer persuading the former Kilmarnock and Rangers keeper to come to Tannadice.
McKinnon fought off competition from other clubs to secure Bell and his perseverance has paid off with the stopper being named the Ladbrokes Championship Player of the Month for September on Tuesday, due in no small part to the memorable hat-trick of penalty saves he made against Dunfermline at East End Park.
McKinnon said: “Cammy has been brilliant for us so winning the award was well deserved.
“His heroics at Dunfermline were amazing but overall he’s been excellent since he arrived.
“He has done everything we’ve asked him to do, he’s used his experience and that has passed through the rest of the team.
“He’s a lovely boy. He’s so down to earth. There is no ego, he does his work and is great around the place.
“We had to work hard to get him here – it was two weeks of sleepless nights worrying that someone else would come in and nick him away.
