Shining brightly among the bleakness of a rainswept Cappielow was Dundee United central defender William Edjenguele.
The imposing Frenchman was the man-of-the-match, mastering the opposition as well as the conditions.
Edjeguele has probably done more than anyone else to strengthen the Tangerines’ defence over these past few months and the clean sheet against Morton was the club’s sixth in their last eight matches.
Importantly, the 29-year-old wasn’t only focusing on himself on Saturday.
Rather, the big man spent a fair bit of the game offering advice and encouragement to left-back Jamie Robson as play raged on.
Robson had a tough time of it, especially in the first half, but with the help of the colleague to his right he made it through the match.
Undoubtedly, during a career that has seen him play in places as diverse as Switzerland, England and Greece, there have been plenty of times when Edjenguele has received help from a senior colleague when not quite on his game.
This was an example of an experienced player thinking on his feet, recognising that a younger teammate was in need of assurance and support without requiring instructions to be shouted from the dugout.
In doing so, he showed leadership qualities that the Tangerines will require as this Championship promotion race pans out.
As for Robson, he needs to learn from the experience.
The 18-year-old is a real talent, though, and you wouldn’t be surprised if he is back to his best when United face Hibs.
