Former Dundee United keeper Rado Cierzniak says he left the pitch “with a smile on my face” despite suffering a Champions League nightmare when he conceded an embarrassing eight goals.
The Pole was in goal for Legia Warsaw against Borusssia Dortmund for the Group F tie in Germany on Tuesday and it turned into a night to forget for him and his teammates.

Legia actually took the lead in the Westfalenstadion through Aleksandar Prijovic but were then put to the sword by Dortmund and the 8-4 defeat set a new Champions Legaue record for the amount of goals scored in one game in the competition.
There was nothing Cierzniak could do to stop some of the Borussia strikes but the third goal was a shocker, with the former Tannadice man coming out to clear away a freekick but only succeeding it punching the ball on to the chest of Dortmund’s Nuri Sahin and into the Warsaw net.
Despite this, Cierzniak is adamant he left the field with his head held high.
He said: “I was nervous at the start of the match but I calmed down as the match went on and I feel satisfied that I was able to take part in a match of this stature.
“It was an honour and I left the pitch with a smile on my face.
“Of course, we got a harsh lesson and, from my point of view, it was a painful
lesson. However, I can promise that it will only make me work harder.
“We came out to play football and we took risks, maybe too many risks. Borussia are a class team and they exploited all of our mistakes, but we can take positives from how we attacked.
“There is nothing to cry about and we have no time to feel sorry for ourselves.”
Cierzniak played 136 times for United in three seasons after joining them in the summer of 2012.
