Dundee United’s Tony Andreu insists that even although Raith keeper Kevin Cuthbert probably knew which side he was going to hit a penalty, he still should have scored it at Stark’s Park on Saturday.
Despite being down to 10 men following Lewis Toshney’s sending off, the Tangerines were presented with a gilt-edged opportunity to take all three points that as it turned out would have taken them clear at the top of the Championship when they were awarded a spot-kick.
Andreu, who netted a pressure penalty against league leaders Hibs at the start of this month, stepped up to take it but was denied by his former Hamilton team-mate, Cuthbert.
The on-loan Norwich player said: “It is always tough when you miss a penalty so I just have to keep my head up.
“I didn’t think we played badly in the second half anyway.
“It is probably true but he knew which way I was going to go. It is not good enough for me. I should have scored.
“It wasn’t a bad penalty but he saved it well and credit to him.
“To be fair, I played with him and he knew where I was going to put it but I have not missed one before during my time in Scotland.
“I could have changed the side and I might have scored but that is football.
“It is tough but we are still unbeaten and are at the top of the league.
“So we will go into the next game with confidence.”
