Ryan Gauld is the highest paid Scot in Major League Soccer, with the former Dundee United ace pocketing £1.7m a year with Vancouver Whitecaps.

The 26-year-old joined the Canadian side in July 2021 and has gone on to notch seven goals and five assists in 27 appearances.

Gauld’s wage has risen by £300,000 compared to his first season with the Whitecaps and now amounts to roughly £33,000 a week.

Another ex-Tannadice hero Johnny Russell is not far behind Gauld, banking a yearly £1.6m pay packet.

That equates to £30,700 a week for the Sporting Kansas City talisman.

Gauld’s Vancouver side are struggling this term

Scotland international Lewis Morgan, enjoying his first campaign with New York Red Bulls, earns £517,000 a year (just shy of £10,000 a week).

Stuart Findlay banks £358,000 a year (£6,900 per week) at Philadelphia Union.

Ex-Rangers defender Danny Wilson pockets £262,000 a year (£5,000 per week) with Colorado Rapids.

The highest paid player in MLS is former Liverpool ace Xherdan Shaqiri, who earns £5.8m a year (£113,000 per week) as a designated player with Chicago Fire.

All salary details were made public as part of the MLS player association’s annual release of figures — and are accurate as of April 2022.
