Dundee United have dropped their bid to lure Conor Sammon after receiving mixed messages from Tynecastle.
It was initially made clear to Tannadice officials that Sammon was available and the Tangerines were keen on the idea.
However, new Jam Tarts boss Ian Cathro subsequently poured cold water on the proposed move and the suggestion from the Edinburgh end is that Sammon did not know he was being considered for a switch.
Rather than get involved in what has become a messy affair, the Tangerines have called time on their interest and moved on.
They are still keeping tabs on Dutch-born Curacao international Felitciano Zschusschen despite his return to the Netherlands.
The 24-year-old did enough in training and in a development game against Dundee last Friday for boss Ray McKinnon to seriously consider giving him a chance.
Meanwhile, McKinnon will show St Mirren a lot of respect when they visit Tannadice tomorrow despite the Buddies trailing at the bottom of the Championship.
He said: “It will be a tough game because they have picked up a bit.
“They have won two of their recent matches against Queen of the South and Raith and then drew against Ayr United on Saturday.
“I have always thought that they are a decent side, with a good manager and experienced players.
“They played well against us down in Paisley even though we won that match and had chances to bury it.”
