A Dundee United fan who got a tattoo of Tam Courts less than three weeks before he quit as the club’s manager has vowed to keep it.
Malcolm Steedman, a lifelong United fan, got the ink after losing a bet with his mates.
He promised that if the Tangerines qualified for European football he would get the manager’s face etched somewhere on his body.
When the club secured a spot in the Uefa Conference League qualifying, the Terrors fan followed through on his promise.
‘He may have left United but he has not left me’
However, less than three weeks after Malcolm got the tattoo, it was announced that Courts had left Tannadice for a job in Hungary.
Malcolm, 53, said: “I’m definitely not getting it removed – I want to keep it.
“He may have left United but he has not left me.
“I think it’s funny. It’s just a good memory to have.”
The season ticket-holder of 40 years says the manager’s departure came as a shock to him.
He said: “I’m surprised with him moving.
“I was expecting him to stay a little bit longer. He’s a young man and I think he still has a bit to learn.
“Still, I’ve heard that Hungary is supposed to be quite nice.”
Tam Courts tattoo made fan a minor celebrity
Since getting the tattoo, the Audi employee has become a bit of a minor celebrity.
He said: “This one guy stopped me in the queue for the taxi.
“He told me that he recognised me from the paper and asked if I could roll my sleeve up to get a picture.
“I’ve had a few messages and things on Twitter, people wondering how I’m feeling about it.
“Like I said, it’s just funny to me.
“You never know, I might even get a tattoo of the next manager.”
