Dundee United are chasing Gary Mackay-Steven for a second time.
But a deal to bring the former Tannadice winger back to the club is by no means certain to be done.
The Tangerines had hoped to persuade the fans’ favourite to drop down to the Championship in the summer, as revealed in Courier Sport, but the player wasn’t open to the idea.
Ray McKinnon has gone back in for the 26-year-old again, it emerged today, and Celtic could be willing to do business, as they were in August.
But whether Mackay-Steven would be up for making the move is another matter entirely.
After recovering from injury, he has recently reiterated his determination to fight for a regular first team place under Brendan Rodgers and got a start against Dundee a couple of weeks before the January break.
Mackay-Steven joined Celtic two years ago, along with Stuart Armstrong. The former Ross County man hasn’t enjoyed anything like the same success at Parkhead as Armstrong, however.
Even so, if he does decide that a loan move is his best career option, United will not be the only club to make a pitch for his services.
Meanwhile, another United old boy, Edward Ofere, has been granted training facilities with the club.
