Dundee United may have been top of the tree at Christmas but since then it has been a struggle.
There just seems to be a spark missing from their play and it is costing them dearly.
It hasn’t all been disappointing since that Christmas Eve victory over St Mirren moved them ahead of Hibs in the Championship.
They have been good in patches against Dunfermline, Raith Rovers and Queen of the South.
Overall, though, it has been a bit of a slog since the presents were unwrapped and this draw with Morton was no exception.
Too many dropped points since they hit the heights mean they will go into their next game against the Hibees on March 10 trailing the league leaders by seven points.
At least Dunfermline did them a favour by drawing 2-2 at Easter Road on Saturday night to avoid it going to nine.
United managed – just – to keep Morton at bay thanks to Mark Durnan’s fluke goal and Falkirk also dropped points at home to Dumbarton.
The unbeaten record at Tannadice this season also remained intact.
So it wasn’t a bad weekend for United.
The problem is that it wasn’t a good one either.
Not since Santa was packing up his sleigh has it seemed like all was well with the Tangerines.
To be frank, this form isn’t good enough to get them where they want to be – the Premiership next season – so the players have to improve for the run-in.
