Aziz Behich is ‘delighted’ to be heading to the World Cup with Australia.

But the Doha-bound star is determined to depart having done his bit to spark Dundee United’s season.

Behich is one of a number of SPFL players picked for the Socceroos’ 26-man squad.

But he faces games against Kilmarnock and Aberdeen before heading for Qatar – and the Aussie full-back wants to leave on a high.

“I am delighted,” he said.

“I got a text from the team manager to let me know I was on the plane.

“A lot of people ask about the World Cup but, for me, it is still business as usual and I still need to perform here.

“When I go to the World Cup I will want to stamp my place as a starter but before then I want to try and win these next two games with Dundee United.

“I want to go to Qatar in good form.

“It is good news for me, the family and the club – but my focus is all on the Kilmarnock game.

“We have an opportunity to take three points in our last home game before the break in front of our fans.

“We fully be focused on that.”

Premiership basement boys United have the opportunity to draw level on points with Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

Because of their lowly position, Behich knows EVERY game is crucial.

And he believes United boss Liam Fox’s fixation on learning from mistakes will stand them in good stead.

“After last week against Celtic we did really well and then we lost a soft set piece,” he said.

“That is more concentration and not to do with quality.

“There have been a lot of improvements and we are only going to get better.

“It is full steam ahead on our home ground so we need to make sure we get the job done.

“We have enough experienced and quality players here to help the other guys along.

“As individuals we need to take responsibility and be switched on for 90 minutes.”
