Dundee United have confirmed the appointment of Charlie Mulgrew as first-team coach.
And the former Scotland and Celtic defender will remain as part of the playing squad in a new dual role.
Mulgrew, 36, joined the Terrors last summer and was a pivotal part of the United side that finished fourth in the Premiership, ending a 10-year wait for European qualification.
He has made more than 500 senior appearances for the likes of Wolves, Wigan And Blackburn, while representing Scotland 44 times.
In recent years, Mulgrew has cast his mind towards life after hanging up his boots and, as such, attained his UEFA ‘A’ Licence.
Mulgrew joins head coach Liam Fox, assistant Stevie Crawford, goalkeeping coach Craig Hinchliffe and the experienced Dave Bowman on the Tannadice staff.
An easy decision
Mulgrew told United’s official website: “I love being at Dundee United and this is a fabulous opportunity for me to take up a coaching role. I still have a lot to offer on the pitch for the club, but this opens my future to learn and grow as a coach.
“I’ll do whatever it takes to help this club achieve its targets and It was an easy decision when Liam asked me to step up and become part of the coaching set up.
“I am excited to get out on the training pitch and help in any way I can while doing my bit on the park each week also.”
Fox added: “Since he returned to the club, Charlie has been an example of professionalism.
“He has set the standard in both training and matches and he will bring this to the coaching role. I have asked him to take this step because I see the value of Charlie both as a player and as a coach.”
