Dundee United have completed the signing of Dutch midfielder Jordie Briels on a one-year contract.
The 25-year-old has made the move from Fortuna Sittard in his homeland and comes straight into contention for a debut against Raith Rovers in the Betfred Cup on Saturday.
Briels is a known as a box-to-box, tough-tackling player and he feels life in Scotland’s Championship will suit his game.
He said: “I am happy to be at United.
“I had the opportunity to come over and see how things are here and everyone has been great with me since I arrived.
“I have enjoyed training with the team and the style of the football is something that I like and also suits my game.
“I want to help the club win the Championship this season.”
Manager Ray McKinnon was happy to find another piece of the jigsaw as he continues to rebuild his squad.
He remains on the lookout for other players, with a new goalkeeper and striker likely to be arriving soon.
McKinnon said: “Jordie is a high-energy, strong-tackling midfielder who can pass the ball very well.
“We brought him in to have a look at him and over the last few weeks he has impressed me.
“He has performed very well in training and friendlies.
“Jordie has plenty of experience, having played near 150 times in Dutch football, and brings yet more quality to our midfield.
“It is important that every signing we make improves the squad and that’s certainly the case here.”
