Dundee United hope to appoint their new manager by the middle of this week.
Tangerines’ chairman Stephen Thompson and his directors are deep into their interview process, with talks with job applicants taking place yesterday and continuing today.
If all goes to plan, the new boss will be given at least a couple of full days to work with the players at training before being in the dugout for Saturday’s huge clash against Championship leaders St Mirren at Tannadice.
It is understood the successful candidate who will replace Ray McKinnon will be an experienced manager rather than a rookie, with the likes of former Ross County manager Jim McIntyre and ex-Raith Rovers boss John Hughes still under consideration.
Caretaker coach Laurie Ellis, who led United to victory over Dumbarton on Saturday, has reiterated that he will not be applying for the permanent position.
