Csaba Laszlo has one goal as Dundee United manager – promotion.
Speaking to the Tangerines’ Arabzone website, the former Hearts boss revealed his tunnel vision for the rest of the season.
Laszlo, who signed a deal through to May 2019, said: “This club belongs in the Scottish Premiership.
“In the last one-and-a-half weeks I have studied everything about the club very deeply – not just the results.
“We have one target – to move forward. That’s all.
“Dundee United is a very big club in Scotland – one of the biggest.
“Dundee United has a very deep and rich history. You can’t refuse if you get an offer from Dundee United.
“It’s a pleasure to get this job. For Scottish football generally, you need Dundee United in the Premiership.
“The fans are waiting to move forward. It was important for me that the club had vision. The one presented to me was very clear.
“Dundee United have to go this road – for us we will never be asked how nice we played. We will be asked how many points we get and what position we finish in.
“I want successful football, nothing else.
“Just one thing is in my mind – to be next season in the Premiership.
“For me, that’s why I’ve come here. I don’t want to make a step left or right, just forward.“
Laszlo, who joked that number two Laurie Ellis will have to forget about seeing his wife for the next few months, will be a hands-on manager.
“I want to be on the training field,” said the 53-year-old.
“My life is the dugout and the training pitch. I am not a typical manager that goes into the dressing room and stays in the corner watching training.
“Every day and every minute I am very close to my players.
“I will even run, if necessary. I prefer to work in this direction – to be a coach and manager
“My staff are important. I delegate also, and show a commitment to them.
“If we are together we can move forward.”
United chairman Stephen Thompson said: “After meeting Csaba, seeing his enthusiasm for the job and his understanding of what is required by Dundee United, he emerged as the outstanding candidate.
“Csaba‘s CV is very impressive and his enthusiasm very infectious but after we met, the board spoke to many people who had worked with him in football and I believe we have secured a fantastic coach, man-manager and a highly experienced tactician.
“I am delighted to welcome him as the new Dundee United manager.”
