Dundee United boss Csaba Laszlo is set to hand a trial to Burnley striker Jamie Thomas.
If the Wales under-19 international impresses next week he could earn a loan deal through to the end of the season.
The 20-year-old started his career at Bolton before heading to Turf Moor in the summer of 2016 on a two-year deal.
Thomas spent part of last season with Ayr United however he returned south after just a handful of appearances.
A Burnley spokesperson said: “Jamie has experience of international football at a number of levels with Wales as well as his time with Bolton and ourselves.
“Unfortunately his time at Ayr did not work as they were part-time and it did not really suit any party. He has been invited up to Dundee United and we will see what happens next week.”
