A shadow has been cast over Dundee United’s super Saturday, with captain Willo Flood suffering a serious injury.
The Irishman damaged his left shoulder in the closing minutes of the Tangerines’ 2-1 win over Dunfermline at Tannadice – a result that put them back on top of the Championship table.
Scott Fraser’s first-half double secured the 2-1 victory, with the Pars scoring with a Declan McManus penalty with quarter of an hour remaining.
As the Tangerines saw the game out, Flood was replaced by defender William Edjenguele in stoppage time and had to go to hospital for treatment.
Worried boss Csaba Laszlo will now await the result of an X-ray to see if anything has been broken or whether it was “only” a dislocation.
Laszlo said: “I am really sorry for Willo because he injured his shoulder and I hope he can come back very quickly because he is a very important player for us.
“He is a very important person in the dressing room and if we lose him it will be difficult for us.
“I wish him all the best.
“He has gone to hospital and will need an X-ray to see if something is broken or not.
“It was painful but it was pushed back so I hope there is nothing damaged.”
