Dundee United’s Scott McDonald will be big enough to give a new striker a warm welcome should boss Csaba Laszlo’s transfer wish come true.
Tannadice boss Laszlo has gone on the record to confirm that his number one signing target is a frontman who is taller than the 5 ft 7 in Australian.
Having had some time now to assess his squad, the Hungarian is on the hunt for someone who can add greater balance to the forward line and either complement or compete against McDonald.
Rather than be upset, however, McDonald is enthusiastic about the idea, believing as he does that it is exactly what United need to boost their promotion push.
McDonald said: “I completely understand that.
“I did look at the balance in terms of what we had up top and we’re all of a similar stature.
“So that doesn’t really allow you to have a plan B if things aren’t happening for you.
“It could be nice for me because my strength has always been playing alongside a bigger guy – no question.
“It takes the pressure off you a little bit and also distracts defenders so that you get the time and the space you need.
“I would say that sometimes we have been lacking that option going forward.
“As the season progresses, it could get sticky as you go looking for results and the addition of any quality player would be welcome.
“It would give me an edge as well.
“It’s nice to have competition, particularly when you get older. You need someone pushing you and keeping you on your toes.
“I don’t think it’s nice to be comfortable.
“So I would certainly like that to happen and I think that if the manager has the finances to do so then a striker won’t be the only player he wants to bring in..
“He would like to see a bigger squad.”
