Dundee United manager Csaba Laszlo is delighted that recent signing Emil Lyng has got off the mark for his new club.
Lyng’s second half strike at Alloa followed a Mark Durnan headed opener in the opening period to send the Tangerines into the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.
The Dane is one of five January captures by Laszlo so far this month, and the first to score for the Tangerines.
“It was positive for Emil Lyng to score today,” said the United boss. “And I think he played a good game for us. We are in the next round and there were many reasons to be positive.”
Laszlo revealed he hadn’t been too satisfied with what he saw in the first half.
“I was very loud in the dressing room at half-time,” he said.
“I told them that when they go on to the pitch, I want to see the spirit. It is not enough to be wearing the Dundee United jersey – the shirt doesn’t win the game, the man does.
“The players understood that they needed to do more and I was very satisfied with the response.
“They were completely different halves and, in the end, I believe we deserve to be in the next round.”
