Dundee United continue to make heavy weather of their battle to make the play-offs, after being beaten 3-2 by part-timers Dumbarton. Twice the Tangerines came from behind but they couldn’t do it a third time. This was Dumbarton’s first win in the league against anybody other than Brechin since the start of December. Anthony Ralston and Scott McDonald were the United goalscorers, with Craig Barr scoring the Dumbarton winner on 79 minutes. United had more possession, corners and shots but were behind in the only statistic that matters – goals scored. Other results meant they clung on to the last play-off place but this is likely to be a fight to the finish.
