Centre-backs Julen Etxabeguren and Callum Morris are on Dundee United’s radar, Courier Sport can reveal.
But the Tannadice club will have a battle on their hands to sign either of them.
The former Dundee defender is understood to be keen on a return to Spain after being released by Neil McCann at the end of last season.
United old boy Morris has told Dunfermline he won’t be staying at East End Park but his first choice would be a club in England.
The Tangerines are in the market for two centre-backs, with Mark Durnan signing for Dunfermline, Bilel Mohsni having decided to move on and William Edjenguele and Tam Scobbie told by manager Csaba Laszlo they are free to find other clubs.
United have already made five summer signings – Sam Wardrop, Callum Booth, Nicky Clark, Fraser Aird and Craig Curran.
Meanwhile, keeper Deniz Mehmet has confirmed on social media that his knee operation was successful.
