Dundee United are understood to have pipped Partick Thistle and Ross County to the signature of Belgian defender Frederic Frans.
The 29-year-old centre-half is a former Thistle player but instead of returning to Firhill for a second spell or heading up to the Highlands he is believed to have opted for a move to Tannadice.
Frans had been playing in Belgium with Lierse last season but that club’s liquidation has left him looking for a move back to Scotland.
His last game for Lierse was a 2-2 home draw with O-H Leuven – four days before the club filed for bankruptcy.
