Dundee United’s Jamie Robson has declared himself ready to battle with Callum Booth for the left-back slot when the season kicks off.
The Tangerines start their campaign tomorrow at home to Arbroath in the first of their Betfred Cup group matches.
Manager Csaba Laszlo will have a decision to make regarding who plays in that position, with former Partick Thistle man Booth having been recruited in the summer to fight it out with Robson.
It has been pretty even-steven as regards game time for both men but the 20-year-old is up for the challenge.
Robson said: “Pre-season is all about training and fitness but we have also had a few matches and it’s been good for everyone to get game time.
“Me and Boothy are 50-50 up to now as far as that goes so there is competition there.
“I am feeling good and pretty fresh.
“Now we will just see what happens on Saturday for the cup game.
“I think we have been playing well as a team, too, so I am looking forward to the start of the new season.
“There is a good bond.
“We have a young bunch now but there is a good bond this year and everyone is really close and there has been a lot of banter.
“It has been a really good standard in training.
“It has been tough but everyone has helped each other, trying to drag them on a wee bit.
“We will be back in front of our home fans at Tannadice.
“It is a great pitch and stadium and with everyone behind us it should be a good game.”
