The right hand man of Dundee United manager Csaba Laszlo has left the club after spending just a few months at Tannadice.
United have cited “medical reasons” for Werner Burger returning home to Germany.
It is not yet clear whether Laszlo will now be seeking a replacement for Burger in his backroom team.
He is a long-time friend and colleague of Laszlo. The pair worked together at Hearts from 2008 to 2011, as well as at MTK Budapest and Slovak outfit DAC Dunajská Streda.
Burger said: “I would like to wish Dundee United the very best for the future and have been encouraged as I have seen the squad strengthened through recent weeks with the addition of some good players.
“Reluctantly, I have decided to return to Germany, and as it is impossible for me to give the 100% at this moment, I wanted to be honest with the manager and this great club.
“I leave expecting the team to have a very successful season.”
Laszlo said: “While I will be sorry to see Werner leave, I admire his honesty and professionalism in making this difficult decision. I know how keen he is for us to deliver success. Everyone at the club wishes him well for the future.”
