Laurie Ellis has been backed for the Dundee United manager’s job by one of his former Raith Rovers team-mates.
St Johnstone midfielder Ross Callachan came through the ranks at Stark’s Park when Ellis was a senior figure there – in the side and then as a coach.
And there is no doubt in Callachan’s mind that his mentor is a manager in waiting.
“I played with Laurie at Raith and he was my assistant manager as well,” he said. “When I broke into the team under John McGlynn, he was the captain.
“I think he’s management material.
“He’s really professional. He used to live and breathe football. Everything’s football for Laurie.
“You could tell he was the type of lad who would go down the coaching route. He’d always be talking about football. That’s what you need if you’re going to be a manager.
“For younger boys like myself, he was really good in the changing room. He was brilliant with me, he helped me a lot.
“It doesn’t surprise me that Dundee United have given him the chance to step up.”
