Robbie Neilson is understood to have agreed to become Dundee United’s new manager.
The former Hearts boss emerged as the preferred candidate to succeed Csaba Laszlo at the weekend and after talks with chairman Mike Martin will now take over in the Tannadice hot-seat.
Current United assistant manager Laurie Ellis was in charge of the team for the weekend visit to league leaders Ayr with the 2-0 defeat at Somerset Park meaning the Tangerines are now eight points behind the Honest Men, sitting in fourth.
Now, Neilson is set to be unveiled this week and will take the team for the first time this weekend when United play Partick Thistle at Firhill.
The former defender already has promotion from the Championship on his CV with Hearts, finishing the 2014-15 campaign 21 points ahead of Edinburgh rivals Hibernian and 24 in front of Rangers.
In his second season, Neilson led the Jambos to third in the Premiership, but left in November, 2016 for MK Dons.
