Robbie Neilson’s reign as Dundee United got off to a perfect start in the Firhill rain.
Nearly 1,000 United fans headed west to see if the newly installed boss could have an immediate impact on their team’s fortunes and the answer was an emphatic ‘yes’.
After dominating the first half, Fraser Aird gave the Tangerines a deserved lead just before the break.
Not long after the re-start it was 2-0 when Pavol Safranko made no mistake from close range.
Jai Quitongo pulled one back for Thistle on 72 minutes and United had to dig deep to maintain their lead – which in itself will please Neilson.
