Robbie Neilson has praised Matty Smith for his performance in Dundee United’s weekend draw at Inverness.
The young forward was given his first start since Neilson took over and was involved in a lot of the Tangerines’ link-up play against Caley Thistle.
Smith was also denied a goal just before half-time when Mark Ridgers tipped his shot on the turn over the bar.
He may not have started had it not been for a bug that meant Paul McMullan was only well enough to make the bench but Neilson believes the 21-year-old took his chance.
“I thought Matty Smith came in and did great,” said the Tannadice boss.
“The kid showed great energy and took the ball into good areas for us.
