Dundee United have won the race to sign Ayr United defender Liam Smith on a pre-contract agreement, Courier Sport can reveal.
The Scotland under-21 right-back had been made offers by current Premiership clubs but has decided to move to Tannadice in the summer on a two-year deal.
The 23-year-old was brought through the Hearts academy before spending loan spells at East Fife, Raith Rovers and St Mirren, where he won the Championship.
Ayr knocked back offers for Smith in January, one of them understood to be from United, but he is now set to make the move when this season finishes.
Ironically, the two teams clash at Tannadice tomorrow night and could also come up against each other in the promotion play-offs.
