Robbie Neilson has seen encouraging early signs of a productive partnership between Lawrence Shankland and Nicky Clark.
And the Dundee United boss admitted that he wants his team to be more ruthless in front of goal this season than it was the year before.
“One of the reasons we recruited Lawrence was because we thought it was important that we kill teams off when we have the opportunity,” he said.
“I look back on games like Morton last season when we were 1-0 up, on top and creating chances. They get a free-kick in the 88th minute, score and we’ve dropped two points.
“It was the same at Alloa and in other games.
“Lawrence was the key signing for me.
“Lawrence and Nicky Clark have linked up really well.
“Lawrence plays really well with someone beside him – like with Michael Moffat last year.
“There’s Peter Pawlett to come back in and Osman Sow. They’re all clever players.”
