Tommy Wright doesn’t have a strong opinion on which direction he hopes the SPFL will travel now that there is a clear fork in the road in front of the 42 clubs.
But the St Johnstone manager does have a strong desire for “clarity”.
A solution has been put out to the vote that could see the lower leagues called early and the same happening with the Premiership a few weeks later.
Saints would end up finishing sixth in the table if that happened but the Perth club have a lot less riding on the decision than sides challenging for titles, play-off positions and battling to avoid relegation.
And planning for the future beyond this season is at the top of Wright’s list of priorities.
“I don’t envy the clubs making the decision because it’s a very difficult one,” the Northern Irishman admitted.
“People want clarity and that is understandable.
“It’s a difficult one. The SPFL board have put it up there and it’s now up to the people running the clubs to decide.
“Whatever that decision is, people will just have to live with it.
“Getting clarity is the big thing. That’s what everyone wants.
“Like most businesses right now, it’s very difficult to plan and that’s the most frustrating thing.
“So if they vote to draw a line under the season now then it will be time to move on and start looking towards the new season.”
Meanwhile, Wright has backed Saints’ decision to put the majority of staff and players on furlough leave.
“We have deliberately kept six players off the furlough and we will review that every six weeks,” he said.
“That allows them to keep doing the things the club are active with in the community and also speak to the media.
“We are allowed to check up on the well-being of the players even though they’re not working.
“Furloughing them was a sensible thing to do. The government are helping businesses and football clubs are entitled to it.
“So I totally support the club doing it.”
