Murray Davidson has started talks over a new contract with St Johnstone.
And the influential midfielder is confident that a deal will be struck to keep him at McDiarmid Park.
Davidson, who arrived from Livingston with Dave Mackay over a decade ago, has been awarded a testimonial with Saints.
The 32-year-old will have to wait a while for benefit year dates to get inked in the diary as a consequence of the coronavirus shutdown.
And he also knows, with no end to the football hiatus in sight, there are bigger issues than getting his fresh contract signed off.
“I’m in the middle of speaking to the club at the moment,” said Davidson.
“Because of the situation, it would be selfish of me to start pestering them.
“It’s my testimonial year, which has obviously been put on hold. Luckily, it hasn’t been launched yet. So we can do that whenever the time is right. When football’s back we can get dates in place but there’s no rush.
“It wouldn’t be right for me to be pushing the club about my contract. I’m very hopeful that it will get done when it’s the right time.
“It is what it is. Hopefully in the next few days or weeks I’ll get something signed and I can extend my stay.”
