St Johnstone have officially announced that Callum Davidson is their new manager.
And the former coach and player, who has returned to McDiarmid Park on a three-year contract, immediately set his sights on a top six finish.
Speaking to Saints TV, Davidson – who will welcome Scottish Cup hero Steven MacLean back to the Perth club as part of his backroom team, along with Alec Clelland – said: “I’m not going to change too much.
“Tommy (Wright) was unbelievably successful here. I know that.
“I’m going to try to continue his work a little bit then add some of my little touches to it.
“It would be foolish to come in and go: ‘Right, I’m going to change everything.’
“The majority of it will be the same but there will be a few little changes here and there. Hopefully that will help progress the club forward.
“To me it’s about improvement – improvement of the players, improvement of the team.
“Top six finish – that will be the aim for myself and the players here.
“Expectations are always high. They have been for the last seven years.
“It will be tough. It will be tough for a lot of teams.
“But again, the goal is to improve. Add a couple more players, develop some of the younger ones we’ve been playing like Ali (McCann), Jason (Kerr), Big Gordy (Liam Gordon).
“Develop them. Make sure they’re progressing. That’s the big thing for me. And if they’re progressing, hopefully the results will come on the pitch.”
