This was a St Johnstone performance and result that is becoming worryingly familiar.
The Perth men were in control of this contest, without troubling goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw, only to be hit by a sucker-punch from the visitors late in the first half.
The goal was scored by Iain Vigurs after Scott Tanser had conceded a needless free-kick. The County midfielder was crossing rather than shooting with his inswinging set-piece but his delivery found the net without anybody else touching it.
Callum Davidson’s side had two hand-ball penalty shouts turned down to add to their anguish and ex-Saint Keith Watson was lucky not to be red-carded for a crude challenge.
Tanser hit the crossbar early in the second half and in the 90th minute substitute Murray Davidson forced a good save out of Laidlaw but County were able to see out the game.
