St Johnstone thrashed Aberdeen for the second time this season and, according to their manager, showed they aren’t ready yet to “put their suntan lotion and Speedos on.”
The Perth men were on top form in the 3-0 win and ended the hugely disappointing Dons’ faint title hopes.
David Wotherspoon and Steven MacLean gave them a two-goal half-time lead, and there was also a Steven Anderson effort which was harshly disallowed.
Liam Craig completed the scoring after the break as Saints cruised to a win which takes them back to fourth in the Premiership.
Boss Tommy Wright said: “I told them ‘don’t be getting your suntan lotion and Speedos on yet!’
“There might not be a European place but we were fourth best last year and we want to be fourth best again.
“When we play like that nobody would want to face us. It probably could have been more.
“I couldn’t have asked any more than to score three goals against a side I rate highly.
“It was an excellent performance. We were right at it from the first whistle. We used the ball well, put them under pressure and deserved the win.”
Dons manager Derek McInnes said: “The best and most determined team won. We got dominated at both ends of the pitch It was a poor night for us.”
