St Johnstone boss won’t wait much longer for Ryan Dow answer

Ryan Dow.
Ryan Dow.

The point is fast approaching when Tommy Wright will be looking for a definitive answer from transfer target Ryan Dow.

And if he doesn’t get it, the St Johnstone manager will “walk away”.

Wright believes the basis of the deal was agreed back in January and their interest in Dow remains just as strong as it was then.

And, now that Dundee United’s relegation has been confirmed and Dow has been told he won’t be offered fresh terms at Tannadice, the Perth boss is hoping that his pursuit of the forward can come to a swift conclusion.

“We’re just waiting on an answer,” Wright reported. “We’ve been in contact with him and his agent since January.

“I’ve been keeping in touch with him. Those channels haven’t shut down.

“It can’t drag on forever. There will come a point when I’ll walk away if I’m not getting an answer.

“Ryan’s someone I want. He knows that, but there are other targets.

“Hopefully he’ll make his decision pretty quickly.

“He indicated that he wants to come here but he hasn’t put pen to paper. Nearly everything was agreed in January but we couldn’t get him out.

“It should be enough time. I certainly won’t be waiting until the end of June or anything. It’s not as if we’re starting talks now.

“I respect Ryan’s position and if he feels he wants to see what’s out there, that’s his prerogative. But I can only wait so long.”

Meanwhile, Wright has welcomed the fact that talks with two of his current players – Steven Anderson and Murray Davidson – are progressing well.

“Davidson and Anderson are close to new deals and hopefully the chairman can get those deals over the line in the next few days,” he said. “They’re two important players for us.

“With getting Michael Coulson and Keith Watson things are moving along nicely.

“I like to get business done early. In the market we’re in it’s very competitive.

“With no Europe there’s a tendency to think we can wait but I like to get offers in and get quick decisions. We can’t get involved in a price war for anybody.”
