Liam Craig will be at St Johnstone next season, and he’s hoping that the same will be true for the man who brought him back to the Perth club.
Tommy Wright being linked with the Nottingham Forest manager’s job hasn’t come as a shock to the former Falkirk and Hibs man, who has signed a new one-year contract.
But Craig believes suggestions that the Northern Irishman has taken Saints as far as he can, after another fourth-placed Premiership finish was achieved, are wide of the mark.
He said: “Who says he can’t take us to another trophy next year?
“It’s inevitable there will be speculation considering the gaffer’s record here, including top four finishes and a Scottish Cup win.
“People are going to talk about him when jobs come up.
“But when I was signing I joked with him that the grass isn’t always greener!
“He has been great for me, the club and the players. We want to keep hold of him because we have a right good thing going here.
“We enjoy working under him and Callum (Davidson) and Alec (Cleland). And obviously he is planning for next season.
“I am just glad on a personal level I have justified his decision to bring me back last summer. I haven’t let him down. I wanted to prove a few people wrong but more important I wanted to prove the gaffer had made the right decision for the club.”
