Tommy Wright “won’t be chasing” Dundee United forward Ryan Dow any longer.
And the St Johnstone boss insisted the player or his agent will have to make the next move if a possible transfer is to be revived.
The Northern Irishman is growing more confident however that Dow’s Tangerines’ team-mate Paul Paton will be on his way to McDiarmid Park.
Wright had been under the impression from as long ago as January that Dow intended to move to Saints.
The player didn’t want to sign a pre-contract then, and things haven’t progressed since it was confirmed that Dow won’t be staying at Tannadice.
Dow may be viewing it as keeping his options open but Wright said: “As far as I’m concerned I won’t be making any more phone calls to Ryan or his agent.
“I have done everything I can. I have other targets in mind.
“If they get back to me then so be it. That might change things. We can then move it along.
“But it is being left too long for my liking. I won’t be losing any sleep over it if we miss out on Ryan. I am looking elsewhere and I won’t be chasing him.
“It is the player’s choice but I don’t see how a team that finishes fourth for the last two years isn’t an attractive proposition, particularly when you’re at a club which has just been relegated.”
On Paton’s situation, Wright added: “We have made Paul an offer and he is just waiting to sort some things out with United.
“I think he wants to come here.”
There could also soon be developments regarding Falkirk midfielder Blair Alston.
“We are going back in with another offer to Blair Alston this week so hopefully that might bear fruit,” Wright reported.
“Midfield is a priority area for me in terms of strengthening.
“I feel we are quite well covered at the back with Dave Mackay coming back after hip surgery. Hopefully he will be flying in pre-season and Brad McKay is returning from his loan at Dunfermline.”
