St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has revealed that Murray Davidson suffered a hamstring injury at Livingston on Tuesday night.
The midfielder had to hobble off in the second-half of the friendly but the Saints manager is hopeful he has not suffered any lasting damage.
St Johnstone have their first competitive game of the season tomorrow in Elgin in the Betfred League Cup with Davidson already set to sit that one out through suspension and Wright is hoping the rest will see him return to action sooner rather than later.
He said: “Murray is suspended for this game anyway. But he felt something tight in his hamstring against Livingston.
“He will probably need seven to 10 days but doesn’t need to go for a scan. Murray being Murray, he could be back sooner.
“David Wotherspoon is out (wrist). Hopefully he will be back for the start of the league season or one game in.
“Dave Mackay has been down to England for an injection so we’ll see how that settles and if we can increase his workload.
“Ally Gilchrist has had an operation on his pelvis. It’s the type of injury which can niggle away for quite a while. So that will be tidied up and he’ll be back in four to six weeks.”
Wright admitted he is looking forward to the start of competitive action and Saints will welcome keeper Alan Mannus back into the fold after being away with Northern Ireland at the Euros.
The manager added: “The first competitive game is always something to look forward to.
“Pre-season friendlies serve a purpose but you want to be playing competitive games so it’s nice to be getting started.
“Alan will train this week and will be in the squad for Saturday. We have enough games to give everyone time.
“The League Cup is important but we can also move the squad about a little bit so we’re ready for Aberdeen.
“I know what my team will be on Saturday and I know what I want to play the following week. We won’t be making wholesale changes but we’ll make a couple.
“We’ve always had strength in depth but the quality now goes further into the squad. We’re pleased with the business so far.”
