Michael Coulson will probably be the only returning from injury St Johnstone player at the weekend.
Saints entertain Falkirk at McDiarmid Park in their second Betfred Cup fixture, and manager Tommy Wright reported: “Michael Coulson will train today (yesterday) and has worked hard this week. I imagine there will be no problems for him for Saturday.
“Murray Davidson, Dave Mackay and David Wotherspoon are still out. Murray could possibly be back for Brechin.”
There were several players who impressed against Bradford City in midweek, new signing Paul Paton among them.
“It was good to get Paton 90 minutes against decent opposition and I thought he did well,” Wright said.
“With three games in a week we will utilise everyone in the squad. The squad is strong so it won’t weaken the side.
“Everyone has performed to a decent level since we’ve come back so hopefully that bodes well for the next few games.”
Wright added: “With respect to the other teams in the group, Falkirk have had a great couple of seasons. They got to a cup final and finished second in the league last year.
“A long season caught up on them in terms of getting into the top league. They are not far off being a Premiership club and have a lot of quality players.
“I’m expecting a tough game. But we’re in a good position and if we can get a win we’ll have a real foothold in the group.”
