St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright is hopeful that a bug that sidelined two of his senior players at the weekend and affected another during the game has been nipped in the bud.
But the Perth boss isn’t taking any chances.
“At the end of last week there was a bug going about which affected Murray Davidson and Alan Mannus,” Wright said.
“Steven Anderson was sick at half-time (at Firhill on Saturday) and a few of the lads weren’t feeling too great after the game.
“No one else has reported in saying they have picked up the bug over the weekend but as a precaution we thought it was best to give everyone Monday off.”
One man who is a concern for Saturday’s clash with Hearts is Danny Swanson. Injury rather than illness is the concern.
“Swanson got a knock on his thigh and we took him off,” Wright reported. “We will see how it goes.
“He is doubtful for Saturday but if he misses out he will be ready for the cup tie with Aberdeen.
“We will assess it as the week progresses but it’s not a major issue. We have no real concerns.
“Danny has had a great start to the season.
“He enjoys his football here and we seem to get the best out of him. Long may that continue.
“But if he isn’t fit for the Hearts game we have enough options to cope with it, with Michael Coulson, David Wotherspoon and Blair Alston all available.”
The under-20s face Partick Thistle today and recent signing Joe Gormley, who was an unused substitute in the Premiership defeat of Thistle, will get another run-out.
Ally Gilchrist will continue his comeback from groin surgery.
