St Johnstone have announced that Steven Anderson has been appointed the new club captain.
The 30-year-old takes over from Dave Mackay, who announced his retirement from the game last week because of a long-term hip problem.
His successor, the popular Ando, has been at McDiarmid since 2004 after leaving Dundee United and is one of the club’s 2014 Scottish Cup-winning heroes.
Saints boss Tommy Wright admitted Anderson was the ideal choice to inherit the captain’s armband worn with such distinction by “Cuptie”.
He said: “It was an easy decision for me. Steven is the longest-serving player at the club, a leader on the pitch and is perfect to follow in Dave’s footsteps.”
Chris Millar and Brian Easton will remain as joint vice-captains.
