St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright insists that pundits who label his side “direct” don’t know what they are talking about.
The McDiarmid manager used Wednesday night’s performance during the draw against Rangers at Ibrox as a case in point.
With Chris Kane the lone striker, Saints were determined to pass their way into attacking situations and were by far the better side, especially in the second half.
Wright said: “We came with a game plan to upset their rhythm and that worked.
“They never really got into their stride and didn’t have their usual fluency.
“There wasn’t wave after wave of attack, so I was pleased with that.
“I think we had a great start and had a few chances in the first half.
“And I thought we were excellent in the second half and were probably the better team.
“I was pleased with how we passed the ball. We showed how good we were with the ball.
“We’ve got good players and are a good side. We’ve had the experience of being together for a long time so that’s a big plus.
“I disagree with people who, for years, have said that we’re direct. They haven’t watched us over the last two or three seasons.
“We can be direct when we want to be but we play decent football – and that’s what we did on Wednesday.”
