Tommy Wright does not believe conceding late goals has become an issue for his St Johnstone team.
But he does want to eradicate the individual errors that have cost the Perth men on a few occasions lately.
Partick Thistle struck in injury time last weekend to deny the hosts a draw, while there was also a penalty conceded to Dundee in the previous home game that made the last few minutes of the Tayside derby more nervous than they should have been.
Wright’s focus is elsewhere, however.
“I am more concerned with the manner of the goals than the timing,” he pointed out.
“You don’t want to lose goals at any time but I felt we should have done much better for both of Partick’s goals last weekend.
“We didn’t defend the way we should have at this level of football, it was another one from a set-piece.
“That has been a few times so it’s something we need to address.
“It’s simple things like just clearing your lines but we have been through this kind of thing before.”
Wright’s players have shown before that they can sort out the problem that they are currently facing.
“We had a wee spell of this last season where individual errors were costing us,” the Northern Irishman said.
“There’s so little between the teams outside Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts and Rangers that the slightest errors get punished.
“There’s not much between the teams outside those four big clubs so you have to defend well because everyone is capable of punishing you.”
On the plus side, Steven MacLean’s goal against Thistle was one of the McDiarmid Park men’s best of the season.
“The bright spot was the goal and I think if another team had scored it there would have been far more made about it,” Wright said.
“The movement of the players was excellent, the passing was precise and Steven MacLean’s finish was clinical.
“I thought it was excellent and that’s what we’re capable of at times.
“So if we can just sharpen up at the back and make better decisions then we will be good at both ends of the pitch.”
