Zander Clark is still on track to be fit for St Johnstone’s game against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday.
But, if his back injury keeps him out, Alan Mannus could well become the first team goalie for the foreseeable future.
“It is quite simple,” Wright said. “If Alan comes in and does well he will be the man in possession. I can only be honest with the two of them.
“Alan was magnificent before he took ill and Zander went in.
“It is unfortunate if you lose your place through injury or illness but we are so strong in that department and that’s how I am going to play it. The players were fully aware of that from the start of the season.”
On Clark’s progress, Wright reported: “Zander won’t train in the early part of the week but he should join in later on and that will make him available for Saturday.
“He obviously has to train to have a chance and he knows that. There has been an improvement in his injury so we are hopeful he will make it.”
The weekend break has served Saints well as far as his injured players are concerned.
Wright explained: “Murray (Davidson) is back in full training and so is Joe (Shaughnessy). Chris (Millar) will return on Thursday but the Inverness game will come too early for him.”
Keith Watson is expected to get more game time in the under-20s.
Fifth-placed Saints still have a bit of breathing space to sixth after Saturday’s matches but only two points separates the seven teams below them.
“This league is so close,” Wright said. 2No team has any divine right to win games.
“With 14 minutes to go against Rangers, Partick were leading and getting close to the top six.
“They ended up losing two late goals and they are bottom.
“Not me, but I saw some people were starting to right Dundee off just a few weeks ago. Now they are knocking on the door of the top six.
“It is a long, tough season. Teams are so closely matched. That is the nature of the league.”
Meanwhile, there is a lot of treble talk for Celtic now that they have bagged the first trophy of the season.
But Wright stressed that winning all three major honours is a big ask even for a side as dominant as Brendan Rodgers’ Hoops are just now.
He said: “Pundits and supporters felt that when Rangers were down the leagues Celtic would be guaranteed treble after treble.
“But that was disrespectful to other teams and I know Celtic wouldn’t have been thinking that way.
“Over the course of a season I don’t think anybody is strong enough at the minute to beat them to the title. But there are some good teams in this league and particularly in one-off cup games Celtic can be beaten.
“Of course they are capable of doing it but they have had a few attempts and come up short.
“Brendan knows how difficult it is. It has been put up to him that Celtic have to win the treble and maybe fans think anything less than that is failure.
“Of course they are capable of doing it but they have had a few attempts and come up short.
“But to win a treble is difficult. It doesn’t happen that often. It is tough to win all three competitions.”
