Suspended Murray Davidson believes St Johnstone can beat Rangers without him.
The Perth midfielder, whose will serve his one-game ban on Wednesday night, has already watched his team-mates get a good result against the Glasgow side once this season.
And he’s hoping that they can do even better than the Ibrox draw he was forced to miss earlier in the campaign.
“I’m out for the Rangers game, which is extremely disappointing,” said Friday night’s match winner at Kilmarnock.
“They’re bringing a big crowd up and it’s a massive game.
“We went there in the cup last year and won 3-1 and in the league I had to pull out in the warm-up. I watched the match and 1-1 was a positive result but we felt we had done enough to win it.
“There’s no reason why we can’t get a result on Wednesday.
“That’s eight points out of the last 12 available and we’ll be looking to continue that form.”
Davidson added: “Rangers have got a lot of good technical players.
“It’s up to us to set up well against the ball and try and hurt them when we have possession.
“We’ve got an extremely strong squad.”
Hearts are only one point better off than Saints in the table but Davidson isn’t thinking too deeply about what positions are attainable for them, and what positions are possibly out of their reach.
He said: “I think Rangers will finish second – that’s my opinion.
“It’s very early and it’s still tight.
“We’re concentrating on cementing our top six place. If we can do that we can then maybe target other teams above us.”
Davidson was glad to sign-off on a high at Rugby Park before his brief break from first team action.
“That’s two goals in my last four and I could quite easily have had four in four,” he said.
“I am looking to get goals and I’m delighted when I can help the team out by scoring. Points are always more important though.”
