St Johnstone are set to sign Nicky Clark from Dundee United.

Courier Sport understands the Perth side have agreed a fee for the striker – who was the Tangerines’ top scorer last season – and discussions over personal terms are at an advanced stage.

All going smoothly, Clark, who bagged 43 goals in four seasons at United, is expected to put pen to paper at McDiarmid Park within hours.

Nicky Clark: set to become a St Johnstone player

Saints boss Callum Davidson has been looking to bolster his striking options following the departure of last season’s top scorer Callum Hendry to Salford City.

Clark (31), who Courier Sport understands was also wanted by Kilmarnock, is a versatile front man noted for his strength as a link-up player – but also for his goal return.

The ex-Rangers and Dunfermline star has averaged 11 goals per season over his 14-year professional career, with a high of 38 for Queen of the South in 2012/13.

St Johnstone connection

His 10 goals in all competitions made him the top marksman at United – who today parted company with former boss Jack Ross – last season.

The hit man also enjoys a family connection with St Johnstone, with his father, ex-Rangers and Hearts stiker Sandy, managing the club between 1998 and 2001.

He is expected to be available for the weekend’s clash with St Mirren.
