Motherwell will be “well beyond the bare bones” when they face St Johnstone on Saturday, according to manager Steven Hammell.
The Fir Park boss has revealed he’s dealing with an injury crisis ahead of the McDiarmid Park contest, with their loss to Celtic in midweek exacerbating a situation that was already a serious one.
Four players picked up injuries on Wednesday night – Bevis Mugabi, Kevin van Veen, Stuart McKinstry and Ross Tierney.
Paul McGinn had already dropped out of the squad, with Jake Carroll, Nathan McGinley and Joe Efford also on the sidelines.
“We have got a lot of issues,” said Hammell, whose side have lost five of their last six games.
“Bevis came off and it looks pretty serious. Kevin has picked something up, Ross Tierney, Stuart McKinstry.
“So we are well beyond the bare bones, the squad is being stretched to the absolute maximum.
“We are absolutely at the bare bones. We are actually past the bare bones now.
“It’s been a tough period, fixtures have been very difficult and they are coming thick and fast but we know the importance of the game at the weekend and how important it is that we go into the break on a positive note.
“But we’re going to ask the same group of boys to push again. They have been great for us so far and whatever we have got available to us come Saturday we will give it our all.”

Meanwhile, Saints will be without Alex Mitchell, who was sent off in the 2-2 draw with St Mirren but Callum Davidson is optimistic Stevie May will return after missing the trip to Paisley through illness.
