The St Johnstone players will rally round their former captain, Jason Kerr, after his season was finished by an ACL knee injury, according to Liam Gordon.
The current skipper has already spoken to his double-winning predecessor after scan results confirmed the grim prognosis for Kerr.
And he’s hoping to meet up with the Wigan Athletic centre-back during the World Cup break.
“I’ve been in touch with the big man,” said Gordon, who was part of the famous back three with Kerr and Jamie McCart that was the rock two Hampden Park cup triumphs were built upon.
“Hopefully during the World Cup a few of us will meet him and lift his spirits.
“Whether we take a trip down or if he is coming up, we’ll definitely see him.
“It’s horrible when it is someone you are so close with and who you have grown up with.
“But he has plenty of good people around him, a lovely family and great friends. Jason will be back stronger than ever.”
